For my end-of-year project, I developed a dynamic plant interaction system in Unreal Engine 5. The system detects collisions between a light cone and environmental vegetation, allowing plants and organic elements to react in real time according to customizable parameters chosen by the developer.
The system was designed to be highly modular, flexible, and easy to use. Thanks to its versatility, it can support a wide variety of interactive behaviors and visual effects. For example, it can make flowers glow when illuminated, trigger the growth of roots, animate mushrooms, emit spores, and generate all kinds of particle effects and organic reactions.
One of the main goals of this system was to bring more life and responsiveness to the game world. By making the environment react dynamically to the player’s actions and light sources, the system significantly improved immersion and helped create a richer, more believable atmosphere throughout the experience.
